Creating a Successful Marketing Video for YouTube

Posted by on Oct 2, 2012 in Blog | 0 comments

There are so many ways to market your business; one popular method is, and has been for many years, the use of video. A decade or so ago, the most popular form of video marketing was commercials, but these days, YouTube has become another great way to sell yourself or your business. Musicians have risen to fame on YouTube, shows have been born…while traditional commercials are still an important part of advertising, however, having a YouTube strategy and including video players on your website can also help both drive traffic to your site and increase company awareness.

Here are just a few pointers on how to make your video a success:

Tip #1: Be entertaining OR be informative.

Both would be best, of course, but if you have a really good, informative video like a demonstration of some sort (ie, how to dismantle your laptop and install a new hard drive, which I found very useful recently), then you don’t need to be entertaining. Conversely, if you can be entertaining, you don’t necessarily have to be informative. Pure entertainment value might encourage a person to learn more about you or your company.

Extend Your Company Brand: Update Your Twitter Background

Posted by on Sep 18, 2012 in Blog | 0 comments

A great way to help increase brand awareness is to carry your designs through from your website to your Facebook page to your Twitter page. While not as customizable as Facebook, there are still ways to update your Twitter page to give it a look that is consistent with your other page designs.

Twitter offers a few stock backgrounds, but they’re easily recognizable and certainly won’t make you or your business stand out from the crowd. There are also websites that offer free Twitter backgrounds, but again, you run the risk of using the same image as someone else. If you’re not design savvy, you can always hire a design firm to update your Twitter look – especially make sure to ask about this if you already have or are looking for a company to manage your tweets!

Once you have an image file, you’ll need to upload it as your new background. Keep in mind that the background in Twitter is responsive – the bigger the person’s monitor, the more they’ll see, so if you are using any elements meant to appear on either side of the main container (approx. 763 pixels in width), keep that in mind!

Here’s how to update your Twitter background:

Step 1: Click on your name/your company’s name in the top left box where your icon image is.

Update Twitter Background

Step 2: Click on the button on the far right side (across from your name/company name) that says “Edit your profile.”

Update Twitter Background

Step 3: In the left panel, it should default to “Profile.”  Click on the link that says “Design.”

Update Twitter Background

Step 4a: If you want to use one of the default Twitter backgrounds, select from the top area for “Premade Themes.”

Update Twitter Background

Step 4b: If you would like to upload your own background image, scroll down to the bottom. Click on “Choose file” to upload your background design. You can also update the background color (if your background image does not repeat itself, you will need to match this to the background color of the image) and the color of the hyperlinks.

Update Twitter Background

Step 5: When you are finished, click “Save Changes.”

Post to Your Facebook Company Page as Yourself (and Vice Versa)

Posted by on Aug 22, 2012 in Blog | 0 comments

You may or may not already know that Facebook can be used as an important marketing tool for your business through “Fan” pages. For this particular post, I’m going to assume that everyone has already made a company Facebook page (or had one made for them).

How to Post to Your Company Page as Your Company

This one’s pretty simple and not really anything new, but if you’ve had someone else set up and design your Facebook page, you might not be aware of how to post things as your company. So here it is in three easy steps:

  1. From your Home page, click on the down arrow to the right of the Home link. A list should pop up that says “Use Facebook as:” with a list of the Facebook pages for which you have been made admin. You cannot post as a company unless you have been made an admin, and you cannot be made an admin unless you have “liked” that particular page (but that’s a topic for another blog article…)
Post as Company on Facebook Step 1

  2. Select your company’s page from this dropdown. You may or may not be presented with an admin panel. If you are, just click the button that says “Hide”, or scroll down until you reach the posts.
Post as Company on Facebook Step 2

  3. Click in the field that says “What’s on your mind?”, write your post, and click the “Post” button. There are several neat features you can use in your post (add photo/video, schedule or backdate your post, tag your location, etc.), which we will discuss at greater length in future blog articles. For now, easy does it.

How to Post to Your Company Page as YOU

This is actually a much newer feature. Previously, any time you went to your company’s Facebook page and “Liked” something or posted something or replied to something, that action would automatically be tagged as being done by your company, not you. Now there’s a feature in place where you can designate whether to post as yourself or your company. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Sign in to Facebook as yourself.
  2. As yourself, search for your company in the search bar at the top that says “Search for people, places and things”. Make sure you’re selecting the right company by verifying with your thumbnail image.
Post as Self on Facebook Fan Page 1
Post as Self on Facebook Fan Page 2

  3. At the top of the page, just beneath the top search bar, there will be a message that either says “You are posting, commenting, and liking as [Your Company Name] – Change to [Your Name]” or “You are posting, commenting, and liking as [Your Name] – Change to [Your Company Name]”. If the former, click on your name (it should be a clickable link) to post as yourself. If the latter, you’re good to go!
Post as Self on Facebook Fan Page 3

There you have it: how to post as your company and as yourself in three simple steps! Anyone else have any pointers in regards to posting as yourself or your company? Feel free to share!

Get More Views on Your Facebook Posts

Ten years ago, I never would have guessed just how much social media would change the way our world communicates. Yes, I had a MySpace account, which I occasionally used to keep in touch with friends who had moved out of state for college. But I wasn’t obsessed with it. I didn’t check my MySpace page daily, let alone hourly. I didn’t have a smart phone where I could receive and post status updates.

Oh, how the times have changed.

These days, social media outlets like Facebook have become Continue reading “Get More Views on Your Facebook Posts” »
